Building this app from scratch (here's why)
Why every screen, every button, every word is built with care.
Hey, hey,
I want to tell you what’s actually happening behind the scenes.
I’m not using AI to build the ENGAGE app. I’m building it myself… from scratch—making intentional choices at every step, with my product mentor and feedback from a team of computer scientists who believe in this mission.
Why I’m telling you this:
Because every decision I’m making right now matters.
How do I design for a parent who might get interrupted mid-book search?
What language do I use that doesn’t add guilt when a parent returns to the app after time away?
How do I make sure this works in under 60 seconds—because sometimes that’s all the time you might have?
How do I design each piece so it considers where the parent is in their journey?
How do I build something that sits beside your relationship with your child, not in front of it?
These aren’t just features. They’re the difference between a tool that honors your reality and one that adds to your load.
I’m building intention into every screen. Every button. Every word you’ll see.
What’s next:
The app launches in beta this February. I’ll need you to test it, break it, tell me what works and what doesn’t.
If you want to see what I’m building and why I’m building it this way, here’s my 6-minute Demo Day pitch (timestamped):
That’s it. Thank you for being here while I build this.
All my best,
Quinn 📚💕

What a relief to know this app does not rely on AI. A bot has no soul so I can't trust that it will give me what I actually need. You, on the other hand, I love picking your brain!
Thanks for sharing, Quinn. Can't wait for the launch!
